Overview
Educated at Government College Lahore (B.A) and later attended Punjab University (Msc Political Science) and S.M Law College in Karachi. Admitted to Corpus Christi College at the University of Cambridge; completed LLB (First Class) in 1977. LLM (Shipping Law) at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1978. Called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1979.
Joined the offices of Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada (current Senior Advisor to Prime Minister on Law), who was Attorney General at the time, and worked there for two years. Joined the chambers of his father Fazle Ghani Khan where he practiced law He was also an examiner and lecturer at S.M. Law College till 1986.
Appeared on behalf of the President Ghulam Ishaq Khan in the Supreme Court when Nawaz Sharif challenged the dismissal of his government and dissolution of the National Assembly in 1993.
Represented the GoP in the famous Riba, Hasba bill, Fecto Belarus, FST, LFO and Uniform cases all of which resulted in victories for the GoP and are reported judgements.
Represented Pakistan in a number of international arbitration issues in forums in Europe and the United States of America which included the disputed issue with India of the construction of Baghliar Dam which ended in Pakistan getting decision in it's favour in arbitration proceedings before a neutral expert.

Practice predominantly consists of commercial litigation and arbitration, taxation, civil, company/banking and constitutional litigation along with some appellate criminal litigation. Though he does not advise the Government of Pakistan after his resignation he continues to advise some government organizations and departments on contentious and non-contentious issues.
